In this episode of The Way We See It, Pastor Alex Bryant weighs in on the growing controversy surrounding Stephen A. Smith. For years, Stephen A. has used his enormous platform to elevate Black journalists, commentators, and voices in sports, but now that he’s stepping into politics and refusing to simply follow the Democratic Party line, some of those same voices are turning against him. Alex discusses Smith’s clash with the National Association of Black Journalists, the criticism coming from some Black commentators, including Black women, and what happens when a prominent Black voice refuses to stay inside the political box others have created for him. Is there room in the Black community for political disagreement, or does stepping outside the expected narrative make you a target? Alex gives his perspective on what the Stephen A. Smith controversy says about politics, race, and independent thinking in America.
